Some say that you have to watch the first Blade Runner to fully understand Blade Runner 2049. While I do think that you would better understand the sequel by picking up on references to the cult classic if you haven’t seen the original you still can enjoy the newest installment. I think the cast did wonderfully in their portrayal of their characters, especially Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford as K and Deckard, respectively. Ryan Gosling’s character may not show a lot of empathy, however, he can be extremely moving. I was a little disappointed with how short Harrison Ford’s screen time was, but his performance was great nonetheless. Another fantastic aspect of this film is the music score, created by Hans Zimmer- a man known for countless other music scores- and breathtaking cinematography. This sequel is equally as good, if not better than the original, without outdoing the action scenes. Blade Runner 2049 is beautifully constructed without relying on the first film. I would definitely recommend this movie to both those who are passionate fans of the original and those who are new to the franchise.
