Varsity Basketball Team: “We’re Ready to WIN”

By: Alyssa Campbell

Who’s ready to watch one of the best Lynx basketball teams ever compete?

The new season of Lynx basketball already has a lot of buzz, and this year’s players are adding to the hype. The 2019-2020 year has brought an exciting team dynamic and promises to make it worth it if you plan on coming out to support them at their games.

While we know that you’re excited to hear about this year’s new additions to the team, who are expected to make quite a splash, we can’t forget about our returning players that are even more of a threat on the court this year than last year.

Dylan Andrews ’20

Nick Floyd ‘20 says, “I think Dylan Andrews will be the guy who people will want to watch out for this year.  Everyone already knows about Jonathon, Bo and Moussa, a great new addition to our team, but I think Dylan will be the person people should watch closely.”

Another teammate Bo Montgomery ‘20 mentioned how ‘a lot of [the players] got better over the summer and this year, we’ve got a lot more team chemistry along with team bonding.”

A tense shot captured from last year’s season

The players have set many ambitious goals for the team and themselves.  Of course, there’s a unanimous goal to win the state championship. The team knows that won’t be easy to accomplish, but they’re determined to put in the hard work and determination needed to achieve the title of state champions.

Moussa Cisse ‘ 21, playing for his old school in New York

For our newest player, Moussa Cisse ‘21, winning state is his most distinct goal. As a new student and athlete at Lausanne this year, Moussa says he cannot wait to start practicing and being a part of the team on its journey of achieving their goals.  Standing at nearly 7-ft tall, Moussa is already a superstar-on-the-rise in the team; he is already a nationally recognized player and moved to Lausanne from all the way in New York.

It goes without saying, but Moussa will certainly play an important role in the team’s collective journey to ultimate success. With his natural talent (6’11!) and wicked amazing passing skills, Moussa has high expectations for the season.

When asked what they were most excited about this season, Dylan Andrews ‘20 said that he was “ready to play with their team for the last time [during our] senior year as everyone comes together as one”. Andrews also said that the most difficult part of the season for his team will be “maintaining composure and staying humble”.

Jonathan DeJurnett ’20

Johnathan DeJurnett ‘20 also reflected on his past seasons as a Lynx, saying how “this season will be different because our team dynamics are so strong, and everyone has been working together. We all share the same goal”.

Nick Floyd ’20

Floyd ‘20 added: “For the upcoming season the dynamic will be different. This season we have a lot of depth.  We have five guys that I think will be able to play at D1 colleges, while last year we were kind of struggling.  This year, we believe we have a lot more of the pieces we need to win consistently and go farther in the state playoffs.”

Well, both players and students are very excited to see what is in store for this basketball season, as new talent and skills are sure to be shown. This season will definitely be one that you don’t want to miss! As always, it’s very important for the student body to come out and support the team – they’ve all been conditioning since summer and have put in so much time and hard work to be the best team possible. This team is so deserving of our unwavering support.

To wrap up, we leave you with this quote from Bo Montgomery ‘20, who couldn’t hide his excitement as he told us: “This year, we’re not going to let ourselves or Lausanne down”.
